Arsenal are focusing their attention on Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as a priority target in the summer transfer window, according to FootballTransfers. The Gunners are seeking to bolster their left wing options, with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli having shared duties last season, and manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on adding a significant upgrade.
While Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has been identified as a potential candidate, sources suggest Arsenal are leaning towards Barcola due to his more natural fit as a traditional winger. The club is aware that either player will command a fee exceeding €100 million, necessitating a focused approach to the transfer.
Rogers has impressed over the past two seasons in the Premier League and is reportedly open to a move to the Emirates Stadium. However, Arsenal already possess several players capable of playing in the attacking midfield role, such as Eberechi Eze, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, and Kai Havertz, potentially limiting Rogers’ opportunities in his preferred position. The concern is that a substantial investment in Rogers would see him frequently deployed out of position.
Barcola, a France international, offers a different profile, being a dedicated left winger. Despite areas for improvement in his final product, the 21-year-old possesses exceptional pace, dribbling ability, and acceleration. Last season, he contributed 20 goals and assists in 49 appearances for PSG, playing a key role in their attack under Luis Enrique. He also has experience in the Champions League, having won the competition in consecutive years.
Despite acknowledging Rogers’ quality and potential to strengthen Arsenal’s squad, the report indicates that Barcola represents the more strategically sound acquisition, given the club’s existing player pool and the need for a specialist winger. PSG may be willing to consider a sale with the potential arrival of Yan Diomande this summer.
