Arsenal have agreed to a €20 million transfer for forward Leandro Trossard to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas, according to reports from Sporx. The deal is subject to Trossard’s approval, but Arsenal have indicated they are willing to accept Besiktas’ offer.
The 31-year-old has been a subject of interest from Besiktas for some time, with their previous approach last summer prompting Arsenal to offer Trossard a pay rise, although not a contract extension. He currently has just one year remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, making him a potential candidate for sale this summer.
Trossard has been with Arsenal since January 2023, having joined from Brighton & Hove Albion. He has featured in 43 games for the Gunners, scoring 9 goals. He is currently representing Belgium at the World Cup, where he has been a standout performer, scoring two goals and providing one assist as Belgium progressed from the group stage.
Besiktas are eager to finalize the transfer quickly, with their season beginning in three weeks with a Champions League qualifying tie against Midtjylland. The club wants Trossard available for these matches and also recognizes the need for him to have adequate rest and pre-season training. However, Trossard has stated he will not engage in transfer discussions during the World Cup, meaning Besiktas are awaiting the outcome of Belgium’s match against Senegal and a subsequent response from the player.
Arsenal are also reportedly in the market for a new left winger, with Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis identified as a potential depth option. This has further contributed to the likelihood of Trossard’s departure, although the club also has Gabriel Martinelli in that position. Competition from Saudi Arabian clubs is also a factor, adding urgency to Besiktas’ pursuit. The transfer would allow Arsenal to recoup a significant fee for a player entering the final year of his contract.
This move could provide Trossard with a new challenge in a competitive league and allow Besiktas to bolster their squad ahead of their Champions League campaign.
