Atlético Madrid have firmly dismissed speculation surrounding the future of forward Julián Álvarez, stating the Argentina international is not available for transfer. The club’s stance comes amid ongoing rumours linking Álvarez with moves to both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
According to Marca, a source within Atlético Madrid expressed the club’s frustration with the persistent reports, stating plainly, “Julián is not for sale.” The club maintains that no offers or meetings have taken place regarding the 23-year-old, who previously played for Manchester City before joining Atlético.
Atlético officials reportedly told Marca they are “tired of these months of lies, half-truths, harassment of our players in mixed zones and absurd questions that are part of a premeditated campaign.” The strong denial suggests the club is keen to avoid a drawn-out transfer saga during the current window.
Álvarez joined Atlético Madrid in January 2023, quickly becoming a key part of Diego Simeone’s attack. He has featured prominently for the Spanish side, contributing goals and assists in both La Liga and the Champions League. His current contract with Atlético is undisclosed, but the club’s firm position indicates a desire to retain his services.
The speculation surrounding Álvarez’s potential departure has been fuelled by reports in the Spanish and French media, suggesting both PSG and Barcelona are interested in bolstering their attacking options. However, Atlético’s unequivocal statement throws those potential moves into doubt, at least for the time being. This firm stance from the Madrid club could force interested parties to explore alternative targets or significantly increase any potential bid.
