Atletico Madrid are poised to spend close to €100 million before the end of the week, with deals for Lee Kang-In and Morten Hjulmand nearing completion, according to reports from Italy. The Spanish club have reportedly agreed a €40 million fee with Paris Saint-Germain for Lee Kang-In, with a further €5 million potentially due in bonuses, and the South Korean international is set to sign a contract extending to 2031.
Alongside the acquisition of Lee, Atletico are also closing in on a deal for Morten Hjulmand from Sporting, with a reported fee of €45 million. Hjulmand has been a long-term target for Juventus, but Atletico have moved decisively to secure his signature. These moves indicate Atletico’s intent to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, a potential transfer of Nico Gonzalez from Juventus to Atletico Madrid has stalled, with the two clubs failing to reach an agreement. Reports suggest the difference in valuation is only €3-4 million, but Juventus are unwilling to compromise given their current financial situation. The club is focused on maximizing revenue from player sales.
Gonzalez himself is currently concentrating on international duty, and is reportedly keen to remain at Atletico Madrid, having communicated this preference to Juventus. Atletico are hoping to leverage the player’s desire to stay with Diego Pablo Simeone’s side. However, Juventus are determined not to sell Gonzalez for less than they deem appropriate. Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri views Gonzalez as a valuable asset and not a player to be offloaded.
Juventus are also considering offers for defender Lloyd Kelly, with Bournemouth showing significant interest. Tiago Pinto, a director at Bournemouth, is a known admirer of the English centre-back. Juventus are reportedly seeking a fee of between €30-35 million for Kelly, funds which could be used to pursue other defensive targets, including Tarik Muharemovic and potentially a renewed attempt to sign Jhon Lucumí once his release clause expires on July 15th.
