Auxerre are poised to add Congolese defender Christ Makosso to their squad, according to L’Équipe. The 22-year-old central defender is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Ligue 1 club as Auxerre manager Will Still looks to reshape the team’s roster.
Makosso most recently played for RWDM in the Belgian First Division, having been with the club from January to December 2024. Prior to his time in Belgium, the defender came through the youth system at Sochaux. He also spent a period on loan at Oxford United from January to June 2026, where he featured in the Championship before the club’s relegation to League One at the end of the season.
The 1.92m tall defender is known for his physical presence and is expected to provide additional strength to the Auxerre backline. Auxerre have been active in the transfer market, and Still is clearly aiming to quickly adjust the squad to his preferences following his appointment as manager. The club did not disclose the financial details of the transfer.
The addition of Makosso provides competition in central defence for Auxerre, potentially addressing a need for depth as they prepare for the upcoming Ligue 1 campaign. This move signals Auxerre’s intent to strengthen defensively and build a competitive squad under their new manager.
