Ligue 1 side Auxerre have completed the signing of defender Christ Makosso from Luton Town for a fee of just over €2 million, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The 22-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Burgundy-based club, keeping him at the Stade Abbe-Deschamps until 2030. Makosso’s arrival continues a busy summer of transfer activity for Auxerre as new manager Will Still rebuilds the squad.
Makosso began his career with Sochaux before moving to RWDM in Belgium in January 2024, where he spent a year. He then joined Luton Town, but was subsequently loaned to Oxford United in January 2025, featuring in the Championship until June 2026. The Democratic Republic of Congo international has five senior caps for his country. He primarily plays as a central defender, offering versatility to Still’s defensive options.
Auxerre have been proactive in the transfer market this summer, exercising their option to purchase Danny Namaso, who has now signed a contract until 2029. They have also added depth in the goalkeeping position with the signing of Mamadou Diop, and secured Romain Faivre on loan. Earlier in the window, the club brought in Arthur Piedfort, alongside Sékou Fofana and Xiangxin Wei.
The influx of new signings suggests Still is aiming for a significant overhaul of the squad following their Ligue 1 campaign. The quick turnaround in personnel indicates a desire to implement a clear tactical identity and compete higher up the table. Makosso’s addition provides competition and strengthens the defensive unit as Auxerre prepare for the upcoming season.
