Auxerre have completed the permanent signing of left-back Sékou Fofana from Swiss Super League side Lausanne-Sport, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract with Auxerre, bolstering their defensive options ahead of the upcoming Ligue 1 season. The transfer comes as Auxerre continue to reshape their squad under new manager Will Still.
Fofana developed through the Saint-Étienne academy, departing the club in 2021. He spent the 2023-2024 season on loan at Avranches in the French National division, gaining valuable playing time. Most recently, he established himself as a regular at Lausanne-Sport, making 40 appearances across all competitions during the 2025-2026 campaign, contributing with two goals and three assists. His consistent performances in Switzerland have attracted the attention of Auxerre.
Auxerre have been active in the transfer market this summer, also securing the permanent transfer of Cameroonian forward Danny Namaso and a further loan spell for attacking midfielder Romain Faivre. They have also added Belgian midfielder Arthur Piedfort and Mauritanian goalkeeper Mamadou Diop to their ranks. These additions signal a clear intent to strengthen the squad following a period of transition.
Fofana’s arrival provides competition for the left-back position, potentially allowing Still to rotate players and maintain freshness throughout the season. Auxerre will be hoping Fofana can quickly adapt to the demands of Ligue 1 and contribute to their ambitions of establishing themselves as a solid mid-table side.
