Benoit Badiashile is expected to leave Chelsea when the summer transfer window opens, with the return of Levi Colwill from injury significantly impacting his position within the squad. According to reports, the Frenchman has not featured in a Premier League matchday squad for the last six fixtures and his future at Stamford Bridge appears increasingly uncertain.
Badiashile’s last Premier League appearance came against West Ham United on January 31st. He now finds himself behind Wesley Fofana, Jorrel Hato, Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Josh Acheampong, and Colwill in the centre-back pecking order. Even Mamadou Sarr has been favoured recently by interim head coach Calum McFarlane, further suggesting Badiashile’s limited role in the team’s plans.
The club is planning to sign another central defender this summer, aiming to secure a long-term partner for Colwill. Colwill recently made his first start of the season against Liverpool after recovering from a lengthy anterior cruciate ligament injury, also appearing as a substitute against Nottingham Forest and playing the full 90 minutes against Arne Slot’s side. His return to fitness has further diminished Badiashile’s opportunities.
With both Colwill and Hato preferred as left-footed central defenders, Badiashile’s prospects at Chelsea are limited. He has been linked with a move to AC Milan in recent months, and those rumours are expected to gain traction if he continues to be overlooked. Despite having four years remaining on his contract, Badiashile could be included in a group of players the club are looking to move on, alongside Axel Disasi, Tyrique George and David Datro Fofana, all of whom were loaned out in January.
Chelsea’s defensive options have been a concern this season, prompting the search for further reinforcement. The arrival of a new centre-back, coupled with the return of Colwill, makes Badiashile’s departure increasingly probable as the club reshapes its defensive lineup. This move could allow Badiashile to seek regular first-team football elsewhere.
