Barcelona are seeking to re-sign Joao Cancelo this summer, but have set firm conditions regarding a transfer fee, according to Sport. The Portuguese full-back currently plays for Al Hilal, but spent the latter half of the 2025-26 season on loan with the Catalan club, making a significant impact on Hansi Flick’s team.
Cancelo impressed during his 19 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions, establishing himself as a key player at left-back with contributions in both attack and defence. Flick is reportedly keen to secure his services on a permanent basis as Barcelona plan for the upcoming season, but financial constraints are proving to be a major hurdle.
Al Hilal are reportedly demanding a fee of at least €10 million for Cancelo, a figure Barcelona are unwilling to meet. The club have informed Cancelo and his representatives that they will not pay a transfer fee to Al Hilal, meaning any potential deal is contingent on the player terminating his contract with the Saudi Pro League side at the end of the season.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding a transfer fee, Barcelona have already reached an agreement with Cancelo on contract terms. The proposed deal would be for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension through a clause. Cancelo himself is said to be determined to return to the Spotify Camp Nou for the 2026-27 campaign and his representatives are now tasked with negotiating with Al Hilal.
Cancelo previously played for Barcelona during the 2023-24 season, also on loan, before moving to Al Hilal. His ability to contribute in both phases of play would be a valuable asset for Barcelona as they look to maintain their dominance in La Liga and compete in the Champions League. Securing his return on favourable terms would represent a successful piece of business for the club.
