Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is preparing for changes to his coaching staff this summer, with match analyst Dr. Stephan Nopp confirmed to be departing the club. According to MD, Nopp’s departure is due to personal reasons, bringing an end to his two-year spell with the Catalan giants.
Nopp arrived at Barcelona in 2024 alongside Michael Hasemann, having previously spent twelve years with the German national team between 2011 and 2023. His role focused on detailed analysis of match footage, providing crucial insights for Flick and the coaching team. The 46-year-old had been out of work for a year prior to joining Barcelona.
Alongside Nopp’s confirmed exit, the future of Thiago Alcantara within Flick’s staff remains unresolved. Thiago joined the coaching setup last summer after assisting during pre-season, and has been instrumental in mentoring young players emerging from La Masia, as well as sharing his extensive experience of top-level football with the first team squad.
Initially, Thiago remained based in England for tax reasons during Flick’s first season, but has reportedly been considering a move into management. He reportedly declined an offer from Levante in December, before the club appointed Luis Castro, suggesting a genuine interest in pursuing a managerial role. While he initially had doubts about a full-time coaching position, the possibility of leading his own team is proving increasingly appealing.
Thiago's potential departure would represent a loss of valuable experience for Barcelona’s young squad, while Nopp’s exit necessitates a search for a replacement to maintain the club’s analytical capabilities. The situation highlights Flick’s need to reshape his backroom team alongside ongoing player recruitment efforts.
