Jose Mourinho is reportedly prioritizing Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford as a potential signing for Real Madrid, should he be appointed as the club’s next manager. While not yet officially announced, Mourinho is already influencing transfer discussions ahead of the summer window, according to The Independent via Sport.
Mourinho seeks significant control over Real Madrid’s transfer business as he aims to revitalize the team following a period of underperformance. The Portuguese manager is known for wanting to reshape squads to fit his tactical vision, and Rashford is identified as a player who could add valuable depth and competition.
The interest stems from Mourinho’s previous working relationship with Rashford during their time together at Manchester United. He reportedly highly values the England international’s qualities and believes he would be a suitable addition to the Real Madrid squad. Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United, but the Catalan club are facing an uphill battle to secure a permanent deal.
Manchester United have already communicated to Barcelona that they will not sanction another loan spell for Rashford. This leaves the door open for other clubs, including Real Madrid, to potentially make a move if Barcelona fail to agree a permanent transfer. However, current indications suggest Rashford is more likely to remain at Barcelona.
Barcelona’s new manager, Hansi Flick, has reportedly informed sporting director Deco that he is counting on Rashford for the upcoming season. The club will therefore attempt to negotiate a permanent deal with Manchester United in the coming months. Should Rashford join Real Madrid, he would likely serve as a backup option to Vinicius Junior, providing competition and tactical flexibility. However, at this stage, a move to the Bernabeu appears improbable.
