FC Barcelona will officially announce the signing of Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, according to club president Joan Laporta. Laporta confirmed the impending arrival of the German international upon his return from the United States, where he attended the World Cup final.
Adeyemi has already undergone a medical examination and has been in Barcelona awaiting official confirmation since last week, with some reports suggesting he has already met with his new teammates and manager Hansi Flick. The move represents a significant coup for Barcelona as they continue to reshape their squad during the transfer window.
The transfer fee is reported to be €22 million, with the potential for an additional €7-9 million in achievable bonuses, as indicated by multiple sources. Laporta previously expressed his admiration for the player on July 13th in Dallas, stating, “We’re very excited about Adeyemi. We’ve liked him for a while. He’s dangerous and fast.”
This transfer is particularly notable due to the existing relationship between Adeyemi and Barcelona’s new head coach, Hansi Flick. Flick handed Adeyemi his senior international debut for Germany at the age of 19, suggesting a pre-existing tactical understanding that could facilitate a swift integration into the Barcelona team. Adeyemi spent the 2022-23 season with Borussia Dortmund, scoring six Bundesliga goals in 24 appearances, and will be looking to establish himself as a key player in Barcelona’s attack.
