Barcelona's Dani Olmo Rejects Arsenal Approach, Commits to Barcelona
Barcelona and Spain midfielder Dani Olmo has rejected a transfer approach from Arsenal, according to reports in Spain. The 27-year-old, despite not being a guaranteed starter for the Catalan club, has reaffirmed his commitment to the club he rejoined in 2024.
Spanish publication Sport reports that Arsenal made an approach for the 27-year-old during a period when he was not a regular starter under manager Hansi Flick earlier in the season. The report states that Olmo, who has also rebuffed a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah, is solely focused on succeeding at the Camp Nou.
The Spanish international, who returned to Barcelona from RB Leipzig for a fee of €55 million in 2024, has faced challenges since his return. After a protracted and complicated registration process due to Barcelona's financial issues, Olmo has had to compete for a starting spot. While he has been a more regular starter in La Liga this season, he has often been a substitute in the Champions League.
The interest from Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, as well as the significant financial package offered by Saudi club Al-Qadsiah, presented Olmo with a potential exit route. The Saudi side, managed by Brendan Rodgers and backed by Aramco, reportedly tabled a €60 million offer for Barcelona and a lucrative four-year contract for the player.
Olmo, however, has consistently turned down all external interest. His primary objective remains to succeed at his boyhood club, Barcelona, where he is a product of the club's famed La Masia academy. His commitment comes despite the fact that his €55.6 million transfer from RB Leipzig, a deal that was questioned at the time, has yet to yield a consistent return for the Blaugrana. Olmo's decision to stay and fight for his place is a significant show of faith in his own abilities and his desire to succeed at his formative club, even as elite clubs like Arsenal circle. The Gunners, who are in the market for a creative midfielder, will now have to look elsewhere for reinforcements, while Barcelona retains a player determined to prove his worth at the Camp Nou.
