Elias Baum, the 20-year-old defender from Eintracht Frankfurt, is attracting interest from Hamburger SV, FC Augsburg, Werder Bremen, and Schalke 04, according to reports in the Hamburger Morgenpost. Baum’s future at Frankfurt is currently uncertain after making only five appearances for the club during the 2025/26 season.
The potential for a summer move hinges on discussions with Eintracht Frankfurt’s newly appointed head coach, Adi Hütter, scheduled for next week. Currently, the club are reportedly open to allowing Baum to depart, but Hütter’s assessment could alter those plans if he views the young player as a valuable addition to the squad.
Baum enjoyed a successful loan spell with SV Elversberg in the 2. Bundesliga during the 2024/25 season, demonstrating his attacking capabilities from the back with three goals and seven assists in 33 appearances. This form has undoubtedly contributed to the interest from several Bundesliga sides seeking to bolster their defensive options.
He has also represented Germany at the Under-21 level, earning four caps for the national team. Baum initially progressed through the youth ranks at Eintracht Frankfurt, and while he has shown promise, consistent first-team opportunities have been limited.
Each of the interested clubs presents a different proposition for Baum. Hamburger SV, recently promoted, may offer a pathway to regular football in a rebuilding side. Augsburg and Bremen are established Bundesliga teams where he could develop further, while Schalke 04, also recently promoted, could see him as a key part of their own resurgence. A move to any of these clubs would provide Baum with the chance to secure more consistent playing time and continue his development as a professional footballer.
Should Baum become available, a competitive bidding situation could arise, potentially driving up his transfer fee and offering Frankfurt a return on their investment in the promising young defender.
