Bayern Munich Open to Summer Sale of Defender Kim Min-jae
Bayern Munich are reportedly open to selling South Korean defender Kim Min-jae in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to reports from journalists Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto. The Bavarian club is now considered likely to consider offers for the 27-year-old centre-back, a significant shift from their firm stance in the previous summer and winter windows, when they firmly blocked any potential departure.
Kim Min-jae, who joined Bayern from Napoli in the summer of 2023, has found his playing time significantly reduced in recent months. He has fallen behind the established central defensive pairing of Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah in the pecking order under manager Vincent Kompany. This lack of consistent game time has been a major factor in the club’s new, more open stance on a potential sale.
Interest in the South Korean international is expected to be high, particularly from clubs in Italy, where Kim previously excelled with Napoli. However, any potential move could be complicated by the player’s substantial salary at Bayern, which may limit the number of clubs capable of meeting his wage demands.
Bayern's previous reluctance to sell was driven by a desire for squad stability, but the player’s current role has prompted a strategic reassessment. The club appears ready to listen to offers, viewing a summer sale as a plausible outcome. This development marks a significant shift in Kim's short tenure at the Allianz Arena and could signal the start of a defensive reshuffle for the Bundesliga giants ahead of the 2024/25 season.
