Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has emphatically denied reports linking Michael Olise with a potential departure this summer. Freund stated that the idea of Olise leaving is “absolutely not a topic” for the club, speaking after a 2-1 friendly win against Wehen Wiesbaden.
Olise enjoyed a successful second season in Germany, earning recognition as the Bundesliga’s best player. Freund anticipates a similarly impactful contribution from the winger in the upcoming season, stating he “will play an important role for us this season, as he already did last year.”
Olise joined Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace in July 2023 for a reported fee of €50 million. He quickly established himself as a key player for Thomas Tuchel’s side, contributing significantly to their Bundesliga title win. The Frenchman scored eight goals and provided nine assists in 33 appearances across all competitions last season.
Recent speculation had suggested interest from clubs in Spain, specifically Real Madrid, but Freund’s comments appear to shut down those rumors. Bayern Munich are currently preparing for the new Bundesliga season, and Olise’s continued presence is seen as a major boost to their title defense. The club has also recently finalized the signing of an unnamed German international, further strengthening their squad.
