Bayern Munich Become First Team in Europe's Top Leagues to Hit 100 Goals
Bayern Munich have set a new Bundesliga record by becoming the first club in German top-flight history to score 100 goals within the first 28 matchdays of a season. The milestone was reached during a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory away to Freiburg on Saturday.
According to statistics compiled by Stats Foot, the Bavarian giants are also the first team across Europe's five major leagues—England's Premier League, Spain's La Liga, Italy's Serie A, Germany's Bundesliga, and France's Ligue 1—to hit the century mark this campaign. This achievement marks only the third time in the club's own illustrious history they have reached 100 goals this early, matching the 2019-20 season and trailing only the 101 goals scored at the same stage in the 1971-72 season.
The record-setting goal came as part of a characteristic fightback from Vincent Kompany's side, which secured their sixth league win of the season after conceding first. This relentless attacking form has propelled Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga table and has been achieved in the prolonged absence of star striker Harry Kane, who has been sidelined with injury. The team's depth and scoring distribution have been highlighted as key factors in maintaining such a prolific output.
With seven league matches remaining, Bayern are now poised to challenge their all-time seasonal scoring record. The current club record for goals in a Bundesliga season is 101, set during that 1971-72 campaign. They could equal or surpass that historic tally as soon as their next match, a home fixture against FC St. Pauli on April 11.
This offensive explosion under Kompany underscores a significant tactical shift at the Allianz Arena. While historically dominant, the current side's pace and volume of chance creation have broken new ground. The consistent scoring has provided a sturdy foundation for their domestic title charge and builds momentum ahead of a crucial UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash later this month.
The record further cements Bayern's status as the 'Rekordmeister' and places them in a commanding position as the Bundesliga season enters its decisive phase. Their ability to score from multiple sources will be vital as they compete on two fronts, seeking to secure a domestic double and make a deep run in Europe.
