Borussia Dortmund complete permanent signing of Karim Adeyemi
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the permanent signing of forward Karim Adeyemi from an undisclosed club. The 22-year-old German international, who has spent the season on loan at the Westfalenstadion, has now committed his long-term future to the club with a contract reported to run until 2029. While the exact transfer fee remains confidential, it is understood Dortmund have activated a pre-agreed purchase option.
Adeyemi's move comes after a season where he has become an increasingly important figure for Edin Terzić's side, most notably scoring a dramatic 94th-minute winner in a 2-0 victory over Stuttgart last weekend. That goal exemplified his pace and clinical edge, qualities that initially prompted Dortmund to secure him on loan with an option to buy. His late contributions have been vital in Dortmund's push to secure a direct UEFA Champions League qualification spot, with the club currently holding a firm grip on second place in the Bundesliga.
The young forward's career has been marked by rapid development. A product of the Bayern Munich academy, Adeyemi made his professional breakthrough at Red Bull Salzburg, where his goalscoring exploits earned him a move to Dortmund in 2022. His first season was one of adaptation, but the current campaign has seen him deliver more consistent end product, combining with the likes of Donyell Malen and Niclas Füllkrug in attack.
For Dortmund, securing Adeyemi on a permanent deal represents a key piece of long-term squad planning, locking down a valuable asset whose market value is expected to rise. It also provides attacking stability as the club prepares for a summer that may see interest in other key players, such as Ian Maatsen, who is also on loan. From Adeyemi's perspective, the commitment offers the chance for continuity at a top club where he has now firmly established himself, aiming to build on his seven Bundesliga goals this term.
The transfer signals Dortmund's intent to build a competitive young core, with Adeyemi joining fellow talents like Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Youssoufa Moukoko as pillars for the future. His permanent arrival is unlikely to be the last piece of business, as sporting director Sebastian Kehl works to make other loan deals permanent and refresh the squad for another title challenge next season.
