Bayern Munich have reduced their asking price for defender Kim Min-jae to between €20-25 million, according to Kicker, increasing the likelihood of a summer transfer to Juventus. The 29-year-old South Korean international has reportedly given his approval to a move to the Turin club, where he would link up with former Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti.
Min-jae joined Bayern from Napoli three years ago for a fee of €50 million, signing a contract that runs until 2028. However, he has fallen down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena, with Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano currently preferred in central defence. This reduced playing time has prompted Bayern to reassess his future and lower their valuation.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported earlier this month that Min-jae had indicated his willingness to join Juventus, suggesting a swift agreement could be reached if the clubs can finalise a deal. The opportunity to work again with Spalletti is believed to be a significant factor in his decision, having previously thrived under the Italian manager’s guidance at Napoli. He was a key component of Napoli’s Serie A title-winning side in the 2022-23 season.
Min-jae will represent South Korea at the upcoming World Cup, providing him with a platform to showcase his form before a potential transfer. Despite his current situation at Bayern, he remains a highly-regarded centre-back with experience in both the Bundesliga and Serie A. Juventus are seeking to bolster their defensive options ahead of next season, and Min-jae’s arrival would provide a significant upgrade in that area. The move could provide Min-jae with a more consistent starting role and a chance to re-establish himself as one of Europe’s leading defenders.
Bayern’s willingness to accept a lower fee reflects their need to streamline their squad and recoup some of the significant investment made in Min-jae’s transfer. A sale would also free up space in the wage bill and allow the club to pursue other targets in the transfer window. Juventus’ acquisition of Min-jae would signal their ambition to challenge for Serie A once again, building upon the foundations laid by Spalletti.
