Lucas Bergvall has expressed his desire to leave Tottenham Hotspur in search of regular playing time, with Nottingham Forest emerging as a strong potential destination, according to Sky Sports. The Sweden international’s future is uncertain following Tottenham’s recent acquisitions of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, significantly bolstering their midfield options.
Bergvall joined Tottenham with potential, but the arrival of two high-profile midfielders has diminished his prospects of consistent first-team football. He reportedly favours playing in the number eight role, a position that will be highly contested within Roberto De Zerbi’s squad. The club initially informed Bergvall he would not be sold this summer, but Forest’s interest, fueled by a recent £116m sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, may alter that stance.
Nottingham Forest are believed to be prepared to offer a fee of £45m, alongside a sell-on clause, to tempt Tottenham into a sale. This valuation mirrors the fee Brighton is paying for Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic. Several other clubs across the Premier League, Spain, Italy, and Germany are also monitoring Bergvall’s situation, particularly after Sweden’s recent exit from the World Cup where he featured regularly.
Tottenham have already rejected a bid from Newcastle United for Archie Gray, indicating a cautious approach to player sales despite the increased midfield depth. However, the club may be more willing to consider offers for Bergvall given his desire for more playing time. The potential departure of Bergvall would free up space in the squad and potentially provide funds for further investment, while allowing the young midfielder to develop elsewhere. This move could allow De Zerbi to further shape his midfield to his liking, with a clear hierarchy established ahead of the new season.
