Federico Bernardeschi has stated his contentment at Bologna and expressed a desire to extend his stay with the club, despite his current contract expiring next June. Speaking at a press conference in Valles, the forward confirmed discussions with new manager Domenico Tedesco regarding a potential positional change to a midfield role.
Bernardeschi joined Bologna last summer and has become a key player for the Rossoblù, contributing to their strong push for European qualification. He acknowledged previous uncertainty surrounding his arrival but emphasized his focus remains on the project at Bologna, stating the club believed in him and he does not forget that support. He dismissed suggestions of seeking a ‘revenge’ move, highlighting his confidence in his own abilities despite acknowledging periods of underperformance during his career.
The Italy international revealed he has received offers from other clubs, but currently feels settled in Bologna. According to Bernardeschi, the club has a “serious project” and he is happy to be a part of it. He also spoke positively about Tedesco’s offensive style, indicating his willingness to adapt to the manager’s tactical plans and explore the mezzala role.
Beyond club matters, Bernardeschi addressed the recent struggles of the Italian national team, acknowledging the weight of missing out on multiple World Cup qualifications. He stated the team was cohesive, but carried significant emotional baggage from past failures, impacting their confidence. He reiterated his ambition to return to the national setup, but stressed the importance of performing well for Bologna as a first step.
Bernardeschi also commented on the contract situation of teammate Riccardo Orsolini, expressing optimism that the club and player will reach an agreement on an extension. He described Orsolini as a crucial figure for both the team and the city, and believes a resolution will be found. He noted Tedesco is laying important foundations and hopes their work translates into victories.
