Lorenzo Bernasconi has been awarded the Benemerenza Civica, a civic honour, by his hometown of Arcene in Italy. The mayor of Arcene, Roberto Ravanelli, praised the defender’s journey from local youth football to becoming a regular in the Atalanta first team, describing him as a source of pride for the community.
The award ceremony took place on June 2nd, coinciding with Italy’s Republic Day, and recognised Bernasconi’s sporting achievements following his breakthrough season. Ravanelli highlighted the significance of a player who began his footballing journey at the Arcene oratory reaching the highest level of Italian football. He drew a parallel with another Arcene native, Giovanni Vavassori, who also enjoyed a successful career with Atalanta as both a player and coach.
Bernasconi’s first season with Atalanta saw him make 37 appearances across all competitions, including a debut in the Champions League, quickly establishing himself as an important member of the squad. A banner displaying his name is already displayed at the oratory where his footballing journey began, demonstrating the strong connection he maintains with his roots.
During the ceremony, which was also attended by the sports assessor Stefano Allievi, Bernasconi wore a shirt bearing the message “Ferma il rumore, non i tuoi sogni” – “Stop the noise, not your dreams”. This reflects the determination he has shown in achieving his goal of playing for Atalanta. Mayor Ravanelli concluded by emphasising Bernasconi’s character, stating that he is “a very good boy, first and foremost, like all those raised within our community”.
Recent reports suggest Atalanta may face interest in other players, with Inter reportedly keen on Wilfried Singo and Éderson linked with a move to Manchester United, potentially involving significant transfer fees.
