Borussia Mönchengladbach have secured the permanent transfer of Jan Leszczyński from Polish Ekstraklasa side Legia Warszawa. The 19-year-old centre-back has agreed to a long-term contract with the Bundesliga club, extending until 2030.
The transfer brings a promising young talent to Germany, with Mönchengladbach clearly signalling their intent to build for the future. Rouven Schröder, the club’s head of sport, described Leszczyński as possessing “a really exciting blend of attributes and huge potential,” highlighting his strength, aerial ability, two-footedness, and comfort in possession. Schröder also praised the player’s focus and ambition.
Leszczyński has represented Poland at the Under-19 level, indicating his potential on the international stage. He has been a developing player within Legia Warszawa’s youth system, though details regarding his first-team appearances for the Polish club are limited. The move to Mönchengladbach represents a significant step up in competition and a chance to prove himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
The player himself expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating his desire to develop at Borussia and contribute to the team’s success. He acknowledged the club’s reputation for nurturing young players, a factor that likely influenced his decision. Mönchengladbach have a history of providing opportunities for emerging talent, making it an attractive destination for Leszczyński.
Borussia Mönchengladbach finished tenth in the Bundesliga last season, a campaign that saw them struggle for consistency. Strengthening their defensive options with a player of Leszczyński’s potential could prove vital as they aim to climb the table next season. The signing offers competition for existing centre-backs and provides a long-term solution in that position.
