Brentford are increasingly confident of securing the transfer of Cologne winger Said El Mala, with negotiations between the two clubs progressing well, according to TEAMtalk sources.
The Bees have already added Jannik Schuster from RB Salzburg this summer and are looking to further strengthen their attack following a successful Premier League campaign. El Mala, 19, has been a key target for Brentford for several months.
El Mala enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists. His performances earned him a place in Germany’s provisional World Cup squad, though he ultimately did not make the final cut. Cologne are currently holding firm on a €50 million (£43.3m / $58.2m) valuation for the forward.
Brentford’s latest bid is reported to be around €45 million, including guaranteed fee and add-ons, and the club are optimistic about reaching an agreement with Cologne in the coming days. Club-to-club talks are ongoing, with Brentford sources expressing confidence a deal can be finalised.
While personal terms have not yet been agreed, El Mala has maintained a professional approach with his current club throughout the process. Insiders suggest there are not expected to be major obstacles to agreeing a contract, with the player reportedly excited by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
The potential move represents a continuation of Brentford’s astute recruitment strategy, which focuses on identifying young players with significant potential and resale value. El Mala is viewed as a player with a very high ceiling, fitting the profile of the talent Brentford are seeking as they aim to challenge for European qualification.
Brentford have seemingly moved ahead of other Premier League clubs who have also been monitoring El Mala’s situation. However, Brentford are aware of the possibility of a late bid from a European club potentially complicating the transfer.
