Lucas Bretelle has extended his contract with Le Mans until 2029, the club is set to announce. The 24-year-old midfielder initially joined Le Mans in January with a deal running until 2028, but has now committed to a further year with the Sarthe-based outfit.
Bretelle arrived at Le Mans following a six-month spell with La Louvière, quickly establishing himself as a key player after recovering from an ankle injury. He featured in 13 Ligue 2 matches during the second half of the season, contributing two goals and one assist. His performances in the latter stages of the campaign saw him become a mainstay in Patrick Videira’s side.
Prior to his move to La Louvière, Bretelle spent three years with Orléans, playing for the club between 2022 and 2025. He has demonstrated a consistent ability to contribute offensively from midfield, which attracted attention from clubs in higher divisions. According to L’Équipe, Bretelle had garnered interest from clubs in Ligue 1, as well as teams in Germany and the Netherlands.
Despite external interest, Bretelle reportedly expressed a desire to continue his career with Le Mans, particularly after their recent promotion to Ligue 1. The player seemingly prioritised progressing to the top flight with the club that secured promotion, indicating a strong commitment to the project at Le Mans. This contract extension secures a valuable asset for the club as they prepare for the challenges of Ligue 1 football, and demonstrates their ability to retain key players despite interest from rival clubs.
