Nottingham Forest are considering a move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, according to reports in Italy, potentially complicating Inter Milan’s pursuit of the player. The newly-boosted Forest, fresh off the sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for a reported £116 million, are looking to reinvest funds and strengthen their midfield.
Inter had previously submitted a bid of €25 million for Jones, but Liverpool are reportedly holding out for a fee of €40 million, despite the player’s contract expiring next year. This discrepancy has stalled negotiations, with Liverpool seemingly unconcerned about the prospect of losing Jones on a free transfer. Inter had hoped to use funds from a potential sale of Davide Frattesi to finance the move for Jones, but Forest’s interest adds another layer to the situation.
Forest had previously expressed interest in Frattesi, and are now exploring the possibility of signing Jones as an alternative or in addition to the Italian midfielder. This represents a shift in focus for the Premier League club, who were initially prioritizing Frattesi to bolster their midfield options. Jones, 27, has been a consistent performer for Liverpool, featuring regularly in their midfield but has not always been a guaranteed starter under Jurgen Klopp.
The potential move to Nottingham Forest could offer Jones increased playing time and a fresh start. Inter, meanwhile, continue to assess their options, with the club’s sporting director reportedly indicating they have other targets in mind should they fail to secure Jones. The situation remains fluid, and a swift resolution is anticipated as all three clubs look to finalize their transfer plans ahead of the new season. This could mean Inter miss out on both Frattesi and Jones, forcing them to pursue alternative midfield reinforcements.
