Brighton & Hove Albion are considering a move for 1. FC Köln winger Jakub Kamiński, with a €20 million release clause the key to any potential deal. The Premier League club must act before mid-July to secure the Polish international, according to a report in Sport Bild.
Brighton had previously been linked with a move for Köln’s Said El Mala, but have now turned their attention to Kamiński after scouts were impressed during assessments of El Mala. Representatives for the player are currently engaged in discussions with Brighton regarding potential personal terms, indicating a willingness on the player’s side to move to the Amex Stadium.
Kamiński joined 1. FC Köln permanently this summer after a successful loan spell from VfL Wolfsburg during the 2023/24 season. The Bundesliga club paid a reported €5.5 million to finalize the transfer, demonstrating their faith in the 24-year-old’s potential. Last season, he registered seven goals and five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for Köln, establishing himself as a key attacking threat.
Originally from Poland, Kamiński began his professional career at Lechia Gdańsk before moving to Wolfsburg in January 2022. While his time at Wolfsburg was hampered by inconsistency and injury, his loan to Köln proved transformative, showcasing his dribbling ability, pace, and improved goalscoring record. He has also earned seven caps for the Polish national team.
Brighton’s interest in Kamiński suggests a desire to add further attacking depth ahead of the new season. The club’s recruitment strategy often focuses on identifying undervalued talent with high potential, and Kamiński appears to fit that profile. Securing his signature would provide manager Roberto De Zerbi with another versatile option in the forward line, capable of playing in multiple positions.
Köln will be reluctant to lose a key player, but the presence of a release clause limits their negotiating power. Should Brighton activate the clause, it would represent a significant profit for the Bundesliga side and allow them to reinvest in other areas of the squad.
