Cagliari's Simone Gallea completes loan move to Serie C's Lumezzane
Cagliari defender Simone Gallea has joined Serie C club Lumezzane on a season-long loan deal, bolstering the third-tier side's defensive options as they push for playoff qualification. The 21-year-old center-back will remain with the Brescia-based outfit through June 2024 as part of the agreement between the clubs.
Lumezzane manager Emanuele Troise praised Gallea's development since arriving at the club, telling local media the defender has shown 'modern qualities' for his position. 'He can handle one-on-one situations in open play and has significant growth potential,' Troise said. 'While not yet ready for Serie A, he could reach that level with an intermediate step.'
The loan move allows Gallea to continue gaining first-team experience after initially struggling for playing time this season. Troise revealed the defender was 'out of the matchday squad and rusty' when he first arrived but has since become a regular starter through improved training performances.
Lumezzane currently sit eighth in Serie C Group A, five matches from season's end, with Troise's side fielding six under-21 players per game on average. Gallea's loan aligns with the club's youth development strategy, having already integrated several young talents into their playoff push.
Cagliari will monitor their prospect's progress closely as they aim to strengthen defensive depth for future Serie A campaigns. Gallea has yet to make his senior debut for the Sardinian club since joining their youth system in 2020.
