Torino president Urbano Cairo has indicated that the future of manager Davide D'Aversa at the club is currently under consideration. Speaking to Sky Sport, Cairo confirmed D'Aversa has a contract with Torino until June 30th and praised his work since arriving in February, stating he is a “bravo allenatore e un’ottima persona.”
However, Cairo also revealed the club is in a period of reflection and is discussing options with sporting director Petrachi. While acknowledging D'Aversa’s positive impact, Cairo emphasized that no decisions have been made and multiple hypotheses are being evaluated. This suggests the club is not yet committed to extending D'Aversa’s tenure beyond the current agreement.
D'Aversa joined Torino mid-season and successfully stabilized the team, avoiding any serious relegation concerns. Prior to his appointment, he had managed Serie B clubs like Cesena and Pescara, gaining a reputation for tactical flexibility and developing young players. His work at Torino has seemingly impressed Cairo, but the club appears to be exploring all available options.
Cairo also addressed the possibility of former manager Giampiero Ventura returning to the club in a consultancy role. He described Ventura as a friend and praised his previous five-year spell at Torino, which included a Europa League qualification. However, he stressed the need for careful evaluation before making any decisions regarding personnel. Cairo highlighted the changing financial landscape of football, noting that revenue is increasingly important, but reaffirmed his commitment to the club.
Cairo also stated he would be open to selling the club, but no suitable offers have been received to date. He expressed his continued passion for Torino and his intention to remain a dedicated supporter, even potentially attending matches in the Maratona stand if welcomed. The ongoing evaluation of D'Aversa’s position suggests Torino is planning for a potentially significant shift in its technical leadership.
