Juventus will be forced to sell a player this summer following their failure to qualify for the Champions League, according to reports in Italy. The Turin club finished sixth in Serie A, meaning they will compete in the Europa League next season.
Calcio e Finanza reports that missing out on Champions League qualification will result in a loss of over €25 million in revenue for Juventus, prompting the need to balance the books. Juventus director Damien Comolli confirmed the club’s intention to sell, stating to La Repubblica that selling a player was “the most sensible decision” agreed upon by coach Luciano Spalletti and owner John Elkann.
Comolli stressed that any sale would be offset by bringing in a player of equal or greater quality, aiming to avoid weakening the squad. Striker Dušan Vlahović is reportedly already preparing to leave the club.
Vlahović joined Juventus from Fiorentina in January 2022 for a reported €70 million. The Serbia international has scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A appearances for the Bianconeri, but his form dipped during the latter half of the 2023-24 season. His departure would free up significant wages and transfer funds for Juventus to reinvest in the squad.
While a destination for Vlahović has not yet been identified, several Premier League clubs have previously expressed interest. The sale of Vlahović is expected to be a key part of Juventus’s summer overhaul as they attempt to rebuild and challenge for a Champions League spot next season.
