Manchester United have held discussions with the representatives of Eduardo Camavinga, but the French midfielder has informed the club of his desire to remain at Real Madrid, according to Fabrizio Romano. United have already secured the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer as they look to bolster their midfield options under new co-owners INEOS.
Reports in May indicated Manchester United’s interest in Camavinga, with the club potentially targeting a deal in the summer of 2026. At that time, Real Madrid were reportedly open to selling the versatile player, who is also capable of playing at left-back. However, the situation has evolved, with Camavinga now determined to fight for his place in the Spanish capital.
Romano stated that United engaged in conversations with Camavinga’s agents to assess his availability, alongside inquiries about Manu Kone. Crucially, any potential move hinged on Camavinga giving the green light, and he has consistently indicated his preference to stay with Real Madrid. The 23-year-old is hoping to work under new manager Jose Mourinho and rebuild his career at the Bernabeu.
Camavinga joined Real Madrid from Rennes in 2021 and has since become a regular member of the squad, although his role has fluctuated. He has featured in both midfield and defence, demonstrating his adaptability. While he has shown flashes of brilliance, consistent starting opportunities have been elusive. Despite this, he remains committed to proving himself at one of the world’s biggest clubs.
Should Camavinga’s situation change before the end of the transfer window, Romano suggests the Premier League would be a likely destination, but as of now, he is focused on remaining at Real Madrid and competing for a place in the team. This development leaves Manchester United continuing their search for a defensive midfielder, despite already adding two players to that area of the pitch.
