Cole Campbell has joined SV Elversberg on a permanent transfer from Borussia Dortmund, the newly-promoted Bundesliga club confirmed on Tuesday. The 20-year-old American attacker has signed a long-term contract with Elversberg, set to run until the summer of 2030.
Elversberg sporting director Christian Weber expressed his delight at securing Campbell’s signature, highlighting the player’s attributes. “With Cole, we are signing another highly talented player who will help us tremendously with his exceptional pace and his ability in one-on-one situations,” Weber said, adding that the club had been pursuing the transfer for a considerable period. “We have been working to bring him in for some time and are delighted that he has chosen us.”
Campbell himself stated he was impressed by the club’s vision and felt it was the right move to further his career. “The conversations with the people responsible at the club were very open from the beginning and continued to develop in a very positive way,” he explained. “I have the feeling that I am joining an exciting team with a lot of potential, where I can make a real contribution. That is why I am convinced that this move to Elversberg is exactly the right step. I am looking forward to the team and this new chapter at the club.”
The United States youth international made a total of seven competitive appearances for Dortmund’s senior team, primarily as a substitute. He struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in the competitive Bundesliga squad. Last season, Campbell spent the second half on loan at TSG Hoffenheim, making five appearances in the German top flight, but also failing to cement a consistent role.
Elversberg’s promotion to the Bundesliga presents Campbell with an opportunity to gain more regular first-team football. The move allows him to continue his development within Germany’s top tier, and the long-term contract suggests the club has significant faith in his potential. This transfer provides Elversberg with a promising young talent as they prepare for their first season in the Bundesliga.
