Borussia Mönchengladbach have agreed to loan defender Tiago Pereira Cardoso to Belgian First Division A side RAAL La Louvière for the 2026/27 season. The move was confirmed by the Bundesliga club on Thursday, offering the young Luxembourg international an opportunity for regular first-team football.
Sporting director Rouven Schröder explained the decision, stating that Cardoso has demonstrated Bundesliga potential despite his age and that consistent playing time in a competitive league is a crucial step in his development. Schröder also pointed to the club’s previous success with similar loan arrangements, particularly with goalkeepers, as a factor in their thinking.
Cardoso, 20, progressed through the Borussia Mönchengladbach academy and made his debut for the first team in March 2025. He has since made five appearances in the Bundesliga, but opportunities for consistent minutes have been limited. The loan move to RAAL La Louvière will allow him to gain valuable experience in a professional environment.
RAAL La Louvière will be hoping Cardoso can solidify their defense as they navigate the Belgian top flight. For Borussia Mönchengladbach, the loan represents a strategic development opportunity for a promising young player, with the hope that he returns to Germany further matured and ready to compete for a first-team place. This move could prove beneficial for both parties, allowing Cardoso to flourish while Gladbach maintain a stake in his future progression.
