Giovanni Carnevali has begun his tenure as the new CEO and general manager of Juventus, quickly establishing a rapport with manager Luciano Spalletti. The pair met over the weekend to discuss transfer strategy, signaling a shift away from the data-driven approach favored by former executive Damien Comolli.
Spalletti has reportedly requested a goalkeeper and a striker be signed in the early days of July, though Carnevali faces a challenging financial landscape. The new CEO is tasked with generating €12-13 million in revenue by next Tuesday to facilitate these acquisitions and maintain financial stability.
Carnevali initially anticipated progress on potential deals for players such as Dibu Martinez and Kolo Muani/Sorloth, but found no concrete opportunities available. This has prompted a focus on “creative ideas” to navigate a limited budget, recognizing that investment in one position may require compromise in another. The club is also prioritizing generating revenue through player sales, with Miretti and Adzic identified as potential candidates to raise funds.
The upcoming World Cup is also a key consideration for both Carnevali and Spalletti. They discussed the risk of pursuing players involved in the tournament, citing the potential for injury as a significant setback. The case of Maxime Koné was specifically mentioned, highlighting the possibility of a long-term absence for players undergoing an intense period of competition.
Beyond immediate reinforcements, the pair also discussed the potential need for a regista to provide support or competition for Manuel Locatelli. The preference is to find an Italian player to fill this role, further emphasizing a focus on domestic talent. Juventus has been linked with Domenico Berardi for an extended period, and the club may revisit that interest this summer.
