Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has turned down potential moves to both Chelsea and Manchester City this summer, prioritizing a transfer that would guarantee him regular first-team football, according to TEAMtalk. The 22-year-old Spain international has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs as his long-term future at Barcelona remains uncertain.
Casado featured in 34 matches for Barcelona across all competitions last season, but only started 15 of those games. He recently discussed his desire for increased playing time with head coach Hansi Flick, who reportedly understands the need for Casado to play consistently to continue his development. While Flick is a fan of the player, he recognizes a lack of minutes could hinder Casado’s progress.
Chelsea and Manchester City both expressed interest in Casado through intermediaries. Chelsea are seeking midfield reinforcements following the departure of Andrey Santos, while City are in a period of rebuilding their midfield following Bernardo Silva’s exit, with Nico Gonzalez and Mateo Kovacic also potentially leaving the Etihad. However, Casado is concerned that a move to either of these clubs would result in a similar lack of playing time to his current situation at Barcelona.
Manchester United have also been tracking Casado for some time and considered him as part of their midfield overhaul this summer, having already secured deals for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. However, the Spaniard shares similar reservations about a move to Old Trafford, fearing he would enter another crowded midfield. He is actively seeking a project where he can become a key player from the start.
A number of other Premier League clubs are now monitoring Casado’s situation, including Aston Villa, Newcastle, Everton, Fulham, and Brighton, all of whom could potentially offer him the consistent game time he desires. Monaco have also registered an interest, and Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal are also monitoring the situation. Casado remains open to leaving Barcelona if a suitable sporting project emerges.
Barcelona have not yet confirmed any official offers or Casado’s desire to leave, but the club are aware of the interest from other European clubs. The player’s priority is to find a club where he can establish himself as a regular starter, which is currently not guaranteed at the Camp Nou.
