Casemiro has confirmed he will leave Manchester United at the end of the season, bringing an end to his four-year spell at Old Trafford. The Brazilian midfielder informed ESPN Brazil that there is “no possibility of staying one more year,” stating he is departing “through the big door” and will remain a United fan for life. His wife reportedly cried when fans urged him to extend his contract, but Casemiro is resolute in his decision.
Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2023, initially struggling to adapt before finding form and becoming a key player, particularly under the guidance of Michael Carrick. Despite rediscovering his best form this season, the 34-year-old has already decided to seek a new challenge, with clubs in Major League Soccer reportedly showing interest.
Manchester United are now preparing for a significant midfield revamp, with INEOS reportedly ready to invest up to £150 million in bringing in three new players. The departure of Casemiro, coupled with the potential sale of Manuel Ugarte – who has attracted interest from Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray, and Napoli – has prompted the club to prioritize strengthening that area of the pitch.
According to the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler, United have allocated £80 million for a direct replacement for Casemiro, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba currently considered the most attainable option. A further £40 million is earmarked for a replacement for Ugarte, with Mateus Fernandes of West Ham, and Bournemouth duo Alex Scott and Tyler Adams all under consideration. INEOS also have £20 million set aside for a third, backup midfield addition, with Southampton’s Shea Charles a potential target. Elsewhere, Galatasaray are pursuing Bruno Fernandes, with the club viewing him as a ‘dream target’ and planning to contact his representatives, though United intend to offer Fernandes fresh terms to secure his future.
