A deal between Chelsea and Serie A side Como for defender Trevoh Chalobah is ‘all but finalised’, according to reports from La Provincia di Como via Sport Witness. The proposed transfer is reportedly worth €32 million (£27m) and is expected to be completed in the coming hours, with Chelsea having gained an advantage over interest from Inter Milan.
Chalobah’s departure is part of a wider effort by Chelsea to reshape their squad under new manager Xabi Alonso and raise funds for further signings. The 24-year-old has experienced a fluctuating role at Stamford Bridge since progressing through the club’s academy, making over 50 appearances for the first team but never fully establishing himself as a regular starter. He featured 21 times in the Premier League last season, contributing one goal and one assist.
Interest from Crystal Palace was previously reported, but a move to Italy with Como, managed by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, became the more likely outcome. Chalobah reportedly expressed a desire to join Como, and negotiations have progressed swiftly in recent days. The move represents a new chapter for the defender, offering him a potential leading role in a club with ambitious plans.
In addition to Chalobah’s impending exit, young defender Mamadou Sarr could also leave Stamford Bridge this summer. The Evening Standard reports that Chelsea are ‘prepared’ to allow Sarr to depart on loan, with a move to another Premier League club being considered to provide the 20-year-old with valuable experience. However, a final decision is pending discussions with Alonso, who will assess Sarr’s role within the team. Sarr captained Strasbourg last season before joining Chelsea, and the club are open to allowing him to continue his development elsewhere.
These departures signal a proactive approach from Chelsea in streamlining their squad as they prepare for the upcoming season, allowing Alonso to build a team tailored to his tactical vision.
