Chelsea have agreed to permanently sell defender Axel Disasi this summer, bringing an end to the player’s largely unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge. The 28-year-old initially joined the Blues for €45 million in 2023 from Monaco, but quickly found himself deemed surplus to requirements.
Disasi made 31 Premier League appearances in his debut season for Chelsea, but fell out of favour the following year, spending time on loan at Aston Villa and subsequently West Ham. His loan spell with West Ham, where he made 14 appearances and became a fan favourite, was cut short by the club’s relegation to the Championship, ending any prospect of a permanent deal there. He currently has three years remaining on his contract with Chelsea.
According to the BBC, all parties are now seeking a permanent exit, with Chelsea likely to accept a significant loss on the original transfer fee to remove Disasi’s wages from the books. Two unnamed Premier League clubs, as well as one team in Italy, are reported to be showing interest in the Frenchman.
Incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is expected to focus on integrating academy graduates into the first team, with young defender Josh Acheampong among those the club are keen to retain despite reported interest from other clubs. The situation highlights a broader trend at Chelsea of managing a large squad with numerous loanees and recent signings.
Disasi’s experience mirrors that of several other Chelsea players, including David Datro Fofana, Caleb Wiley, and Deivid Washington, who face uncertain futures this summer. Decisions are also pending regarding the futures of Nicolas Jackson and Aaron Anselmino following their respective loan spells.
