Chelsea have announced the signing of winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting Portugal on a long-term contract extending to 2034. The club confirmed the transfer on Wednesday, posting images of the 19-year-old in his new kit throughout the afternoon. The deal, initially agreed in March 2025, sees Chelsea acquire one of the most promising young talents in European football for a fee exceeding €52 million.
Quenda spent the 2025/26 season further developing his game with Sporting after the initial agreement, gaining valuable experience before making the move to London. He is part of the highly-rated 2007 generation of players, alongside Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal. Last season, the Portuguese international featured in 32 matches for Sporting, directly contributing to 15 goals with 6 goals scored – including 2 in the Champions League – and 9 assists.
However, Quenda’s progress was temporarily hampered by a metatarsal fracture sustained in December, which sidelined him for a significant period. Despite the injury, he demonstrated his potential upon his return, solidifying his position as a key player for Sporting. His ability to both score and create goals from wide positions made him an attractive prospect for Chelsea, who were reportedly monitoring his development closely for over a year.
Chelsea are continuing to reshape their squad under new management, focusing on acquiring young, dynamic players. Quenda’s arrival provides competition and depth in the attacking positions, offering a long-term solution on the wing. The signing signals Chelsea’s continued investment in promising talent and their ambition to build a competitive team for the future.
