Chelsea are in discussions with Juventus regarding a potential player exchange deal this summer, with Andrea Cambiaso emerging as a key target for the Blues as they seek to reinforce their left-back options. The move comes following Marc Cucurella’s transfer to Real Madrid, prompting Chelsea to evaluate replacements, initially including Nathaniel Brown and Alejandro Grimaldo.
Brown has since agreed to join Bayern Munich, shifting Chelsea’s focus towards Cambiaso, a 26-year-old Italy international. The Juventus player is highly regarded for his versatility, capable of playing on either flank and fitting into multiple tactical systems, qualities that appeal to Chelsea’s new head coach, Xabi Alonso. While Grimaldo remains admired due to his prior successful partnership with Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, the Spain international reportedly prefers a return to his homeland, with Atletico Madrid also expressing strong interest.
According to sources, Chelsea currently value Cambiaso at approximately £25 million, while Juventus are seeking a package closer to £34 million. To bridge this valuation gap, the clubs are exploring a swap deal involving Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson. Jackson spent the previous season on loan at Bayern Munich, though the German club did not pursue a permanent transfer, and is now attracting attention from Juventus.
Chelsea were initially open to allowing Jackson to compete for a place under Alonso during pre-season, but the Senegal international is seeking assurances regarding his role and playing time. Juventus view Jackson as a potential addition to their attacking options and a means of facilitating Cambiaso’s move to Stamford Bridge. A deal involving Jackson plus a cash sum is now considered increasingly realistic, though Barcelona are also monitoring Cambiaso’s situation as they search for a left-back of their own.
With other targets unavailable and Alonso prioritizing a versatile wing-back, Cambiaso has become a priority for Chelsea. The potential deal represents a strategic move for both clubs, addressing specific needs within their squads as they prepare for the upcoming season.
