Chelsea have been touted as a potential destination for SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi following his impressive performance for Switzerland against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday. The 20-year-old scored twice in the 4-1 victory, bolstering his reputation after a breakout season in the Bundesliga.
Manzambi enjoyed a successful 2025/26 campaign with Freiburg, registering seven goals and nine assists as a box-to-box midfielder. While his form dipped slightly towards the end of the season, his recent display on the international stage has reignited interest from several top European clubs. He previously featured for Freiburg in their Europa League final loss against Aston Villa.
Germany legend Thomas Muller has publicly endorsed Manzambi as a potential signing for Bayern Munich, praising his flexibility, maturity, and work ethic while commentating for Magenta TV. Muller highlighted Manzambi’s ability to play multiple positions, even suggesting he could be utilized as a striker. However, data analytics firm SciSports believe Bayern is not a suitable fit for the player, citing potential playing time concerns behind Jamal Musiala.
According to SciSports, Serie A and the Premier League represent more viable options for Manzambi. AS Roma and Juventus are identified as stylistic fits, while Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur also rank highly as potential destinations. Arsenal and Manchester United have also been previously linked, though playing time may be limited at those clubs. Some analysts suggest another season of development at Freiburg might be the most beneficial path for the young player, though it lacks the appeal of a high-profile transfer.
While a specific transfer fee has not been reported, Manzambi’s estimated transfer value currently sits between €28.1M and €34.3M. The move to Chelsea would provide Manzambi with a platform to further develop his skills in a competitive league, and potentially fill a midfield role as the club continues its rebuild.
