Chelsea are preparing a €100 million bid for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, according to reports. The potential transfer would see the Uruguayan international move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Valverde has been a key player for Real Madrid since breaking into the first team in 2018, contributing significantly in midfield with his energy, tackling, and increasingly, his goalscoring ability. Last season, he featured in 38 games across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing six assists. He has won numerous titles with Real Madrid, including La Liga and the Champions League, establishing himself as one of the top midfielders in European football.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with midfield reinforcements throughout the transfer window, with manager Mauricio Pochettino seeking to rebuild the squad following a disappointing campaign. The Blues finished sixth in the Premier League last season, missing out on Champions League qualification, and are looking to strengthen in key areas to compete at the highest level. Valverde’s arrival would provide a significant boost to their midfield options.
Elsewhere, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has indicated that Anthony Gordon is likely to leave the club this summer. Howe’s comments suggest that a deal is close, though Chelsea are yet to officially confirm an agreement. The 22-year-old winger joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 and quickly became a regular starter, scoring six goals in 34 Premier League appearances last season.
In Italy, Napoli are poised to automatically sign Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund for a €50 million package should they qualify for the Champions League. The Danish striker has impressed during his loan spell, scoring 12 goals in Serie A. A permanent move would see Hojlund continue his development in Naples.
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is also reportedly a leading candidate to return to Real Madrid as their new manager, while Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has hinted at a potential move to Major League Soccer, stating it “might be time” for a change.
