Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen during the upcoming summer transfer window, as new manager Xabi Alonso seeks to reshape the squad. The Blues, who failed to qualify for European competition for the second consecutive season, are facing a period of significant change with several players potentially departing, including Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella.
According to sources, West Ham’s relegation to the Championship makes Bowen a potentially affordable and willing target for Chelsea. The club needs to raise funds following their demotion, and Bowen is considered one of their most valuable assets alongside Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville. Furthermore, the opportunity to remain in London, where he has young children, is expected to appeal to the 29-year-old.
Bowen has consistently delivered strong performances in the Premier League, recording at least 20 league goal contributions in four of his last five seasons with West Ham. This level of consistency is something Chelsea have lacked in their attacking options, particularly from their substitutes. Last season’s signings of Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, and Alejandro Garnacho all struggled to make an impact, highlighting the need for more reliable options.
The potential arrival of Bowen is also seen as a way to manage the workload of young Brazilian winger Estevao, who suffered a serious hamstring injury towards the end of the 2025-26 season. Estevao is expected to be sidelined for several months, and Bowen would provide a capable and experienced deputy on the right wing. Pedro Neto has primarily featured on the left, making Bowen a natural fit to support Estevao when he returns. Chelsea’s attacking substitutions proved detrimental during the latter stages of last season, and Alonso is keen to address this issue by adding proven quality to the squad. While not a marquee signing, Bowen is viewed as a pragmatic and effective solution for Chelsea’s immediate needs.
