Cristian Chivu is set to sign a contract extension with Inter Milan until 2028, with an option for an additional year, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport. The agreement follows an intensive four-hour meeting between the Romanian coach and Inter’s management at the club’s headquarters on Via della Liberazione.
While the finer details of the deal have been finalized, the official announcement is expected imminently, potentially as early as tomorrow at the Festival della Serie A in Parma, where Inter president Giuseppe Marotta is scheduled to appear. The meeting encompassed not only securing the economic terms of the extension but also strategic planning for the club’s future.
Chivu assumed the role of Inter’s head coach following the departure of Simone Inzaghi, and has overseen a period of stability at the San Siro. He previously served as a player for Inter from 2007 to 2014, winning multiple Serie A titles and the Champions League in 2010. His transition into coaching has been viewed positively, with an emphasis on developing young talent within the squad.
The discussions also included an assessment of the transfer market, with particular attention paid to the future of young player Palestra. Inter will be looking to build on their recent successes and maintain a competitive edge both domestically and in the Champions League, and Chivu’s continued leadership is considered crucial to achieving those goals. This extension provides Inter with continuity and allows Chivu to further implement his vision for the club’s long-term development.
