Cristian Chivu is expected to sign a contract extension with Inter next week, according to reports from Italy. The Romanian manager, who led Inter to both the Serie A title and Coppa Italia in his first season, has been working closely with the club’s leadership to shape the squad for the future.
Despite the majority of Inter’s squad enjoying a break following a demanding season, Chivu remains actively involved in planning for the upcoming campaign. Only six Inter players – Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, Hakan Calhanoglu, Manuel Akanji, Kristjan Asllani, and Giovanni Bonfanti – are currently participating in the ongoing World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Denzel Dumfries is technically also listed, though his potential transfer to Real Madrid remains unconfirmed.
The limited number of players involved in the World Cup presents an opportunity for Inter to finalize plans both on the pitch and in the transfer market. Chivu will reportedly reunite with a largely rested squad when pre-season training begins, a stark contrast to the situation he faced last season following the Champions League final and the World Cup.
Following the conclusion of the domestic season, non-World Cup participants were granted leave to rest and recuperate. Several players have opted to remain in Italy, while others, such as Luis Henrique, have returned to their home countries. Inter anticipates a rejuvenated squad when they convene for a pre-season training camp in Germany in mid-July, with Chivu hoping to have several new additions integrated into the team by then, including potential signings such as Solet, Palestra, and Jones. The constant communication between Chivu and the club’s directors throughout the off-season suggests a proactive approach to strengthening the squad.
