Como president Mirwan Suwarso has indicated that the club is hoping to retain midfielder Cesc Fabregas, while also stating that the future of Nico Paz remains in the hands of Real Madrid. Suwarso made the comments during the Festival della Serie A in Parma, providing updates on the club’s current situation and potential transfer targets.
Regarding Fabregas, Suwarso stated that the player has expressed a desire to stay with Como, but a final decision is pending. The former Arsenal and Barcelona player joined Como in August 2023, bringing significant experience to the newly promoted Serie A side. He has featured in 14 league matches for Como this season, contributing with assists and dictating play from midfield. His continued presence would be a boost for the club as they navigate their first season back in the top flight.
Suwarso also addressed the situation surrounding Nico Paz, an Argentinian midfielder currently on loan from Real Madrid. He confirmed that Como are awaiting a decision from the Spanish giants regarding Paz’s future, suggesting the club are keen to keep the player but have limited control over the outcome. Paz has made 8 appearances for Como this season, demonstrating promising potential in a midfield role.
When questioned about potential signings, Suwarso mentioned that Como are monitoring several players, including Italy internationals Fabrizio Cambiaso and Federico Chiesa. However, he acknowledged that the asking prices for these players are currently beyond the club’s budget. This suggests Como are focused on identifying affordable options who can contribute to their squad without exceeding their financial limitations.
Suwarso also touched upon the club’s ambitions, stating that while they are focused on winning each game, they are not ruling out a challenge for the Scudetto. He referenced previous skepticism about Como’s ability to even compete in the Champions League, suggesting that anything is possible in football. Como currently sit mid-table in Serie A, exceeding initial expectations and demonstrating a competitive spirit.
The club’s willingness to retain experienced players like Fabregas alongside developing talent like Paz signals a long-term strategy focused on stability and growth. Como’s ability to navigate the transfer market effectively will be crucial as they aim to establish themselves as a consistent force in Serie A.
