Como are moving quickly to bolster their squad following confirmation of at least Europa League football next season, with the club set to sign Ivan Azon and Andres Cuenca from Spain, according to reports in Italy. Sporting director Ludi is overseeing the transfer activity, prioritizing Spanish players to maintain the club’s established technical and cultural identity under manager Cesc Fabregas.
Azon returns to Como after a successful spell with Ipswich Town. The club initially signed the forward from Saragossa in February 2025 for a fee of €2 million, intending to oversee his recovery from a calf injury. Despite impressing in pre-season, the arrival of Alvaro Morata limited his opportunities, and he subsequently joined Ipswich. Azon flourished in the Championship, making 40 appearances across all competitions, starting half of those matches, and contributing 5 goals and 4 assists, playing a key role in Ipswich’s promotion to the Premier League. Fabregas is reportedly pleased to have Azon back, viewing him as a versatile attacking option.
The move addresses a potential need in Como’s attack, with Morata having underperformed this season and only Douvikas currently occupying the central striker position. The return of Azon provides competition and tactical flexibility for Fabregas.
Also arriving is defender Andres Cuenca, a 2007-born talent from Barcelona. Como secured Cuenca strategically during the winter transfer window, immediately loaning him to Gijon in the Spanish second division to gain experience. Despite a recent muscle injury that kept him sidelined from February to April, Cuenca quickly re-established himself in the starting lineup, featuring in the last five matches of the season. He is described as a modern defender, comfortable in possession and capable of playing out from the back, fitting Fabregas’ preferred style of play.
Cuenca’s arrival addresses a need in central defense, with Diego Carlos on a dry loan from Fenerbahce, Kempf attracting interest from Bologna, and Goldaniga having seen limited playing time. The signings of Azon and Cuenca represent a clear continuation of Como’s strategy of building a squad with a strong Spanish influence, providing depth and quality as they prepare for a European campaign.
