Cristiano Ronaldo leads Al-Nassr's push to sign Casemiro on free transfer
Cristiano Ronaldo is personally leading an attempt to bring his former Real Madrid teammate Casemiro to Al-Nassr, according to reports in Spain. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is said to be in direct contact with the Brazilian midfielder in an attempt to convince him to move to the Saudi Pro League this summer. Casemiro, 32, will be a free agent when his Manchester United contract expires at the end of June.
Spanish publication Marca reports that Ronaldo, a key player and major influence at Al-Nassr, has identified the 32-year-old as a primary transfer target. The move would reunite the pair, who played together at Real Madrid, winning multiple Champions League titles. Casemiro is seen as a marquee signing who could significantly bolster the Saudi Pro League side's midfield.
The 32-year-old has confirmed his departure from Manchester United, despite a clause in his contract that could have triggered a one-year extension. Speaking to The Athletic, Casemiro confirmed his exit, stating, "I believe the announcement is now done. It is huge, the affection that the fans have shown towards me." He has made 30 appearances for United this season, scoring seven goals.
However, Al-Nassr faces significant competition for his signature. Inter Miami, who recently saw Sergio Busquets retire, are also strongly linked with a move for the Brazilian on a free transfer. The MLS side are reportedly keen to secure a Bosman deal for the experienced defensive midfielder.
A move to Saudi Arabia would provide a significant financial incentive for Casemiro, while a move to Miami would see him link up with global superstar Lionel Messi. Casemiro's decision is expected to be a key factor in the summer transfer window, with his future likely to be decided in the coming weeks.
