Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid all expressing interest in the Spain international. The Athletic reports that Cucurella is willing to leave following Chelsea’s tenth-place finish in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 for a reported €65.3 million and has been a regular feature for the Blues since then. However, his future at the club is now uncertain as several players are expected to depart as part of a squad overhaul.
Incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly keen to retain Cucurella’s services and has already held discussions with the player. Despite Alonso’s interest, he is aware of Cucurella’s desire to return to Spain. Both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have contacted Chelsea officials regarding a potential deal, while Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation.
Manchester City have also been tenuously linked with a move for Cucurella, with former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca set to take charge at the Etihad Stadium. However, a transfer to City is considered unlikely due to the presence of Nico O’Reilly in their squad. Enzo Fernandez is also reportedly looking to leave Chelsea, with Real Madrid among the clubs interested.
Analysts suggest a sale could benefit Chelsea, as Cucurella’s form has declined since January and the club has already secured Jorrel Hato as a potential replacement. Alonso’s preferred 3-4-3 formation may also limit Cucurella’s opportunities, as he doesn’t naturally fit as a wide centre-back or wing-back. Despite this, Chelsea would be losing an experienced player if he were to depart. The club is also looking to offload Liam Delap, Alejandro Garnacho, Benoit Badiashile, Tyrique George, and Axel Disasi, among others, this summer.
