Marc Cucurella’s representatives are exploring potential moves away from Chelsea this summer, with Atletico Madrid emerging as a leading contender for the Spain international, according to TEAMtalk. Sources have confirmed that Cucurella’s camp have begun sounding out destinations after informing clubs across Europe of his potential availability during the current transfer window.
The 27-year-old Chelsea full-back remains highly regarded despite an inconsistent spell in West London, and interest in his situation is growing. Barcelona and Real Madrid have both maintained a long-standing admiration for Cucurella and are continuing to assess left-back options ahead of the new season. Bayern Munich have also registered enquiries regarding the defender’s availability as the Bundesliga champions consider strengthening their defence.
However, Atletico Madrid appear to be the frontrunners, and sources indicate they are preparing an opening offer. Cucurella is reportedly open to joining Diego Simeone’s side and would welcome a return to LaLiga if a suitable deal can be agreed. Atletico are expected to strengthen at left-back this summer and believe Cucurella’s energy, aggression, and tactical versatility would make him a seamless fit within Simeone’s system.
Chelsea are not actively seeking to sell Cucurella, but are willing to consider offers that meet their valuation, believed to be in excess of £40million. As a result, interested clubs are now evaluating whether they can meet those demands. The Blues have already begun identifying potential replacements, with Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown among those admired internally.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo is also a potential option, having previously played under Chelsea manager Enzo Alonso. With Chelsea now seemingly more open to signing players over the age of 27 following Alonso’s arrival, an interest in the 30-year-old Grimaldo is not surprising. The potential departures and arrivals suggest Chelsea are preparing for significant changes to their squad this summer.
